An angry wind moved
and tore down the house
and barn
It uprooted the corn
and snapped the trees
like twigs
Scattering the chickens
like salt on green beans
it moved onward ...
The barking dog
crouched beneath the
shadow of change...
Its bark becoming inaudible
taken up in
a deafening roar...
The decree was written in haste
signed with anger
There would be nothing left to take
after the bulldozers came...
Only the cowering dog
was spared
Whisked away
in the back of a pick-up truck
that sped away
in a cloud of dust
Into the vanishing point
.
