a wailing, mournful cry

we all have times when it seems that the sun will never shine again...

When the night closes in
and the darkness is deep
past memories become thieves
that rob me of sleep

Times that keep secrets
converge in a swarm
relentlessly stinging
with a venomous scorn

Restlessly seething
the breath in my chest
rising and falling
dark waves on the crest

Surging forth in crescendo
a wailing, mournful cry
suspended in air
just one question ....

WHY?!!

Inside the Storm

The wind was raging running
wildly screaming
like a frightened pony
seeking shelter from a storm
It banged at the windows
 and slammed at the door
where, upon gaining entrance, |
it knocked about all it touched ...
until, finally, nearly out of breath,
it settled itself in the presence
 of the golden glowing hearth

There it lingered for hours
 gently stirring glowing embers,
 causing them to laugh;

As it danced in and out among the flames,
  I watched with delight,
 sitting quietly,
 listening,
 enjoying my companions
 sheltered and warm
inside the storm

into December

something I wrote a few months back...

Oh sad, sad wind
how strangely you sing
casting down, as the rain
the tears of all time

Deep is the cold
deep, deep is the darkness
deep is the longing
for this soon to pass

Oh angry wind
you carry so strongly
the voices of fear
the cries of despair

Crashing and banging
rushing past like today does
and there's no way to stop it
til its time is done

But tomorrow
we'll be rolling in sunshine
knee-deep in sweet grass
breathin' with ease

I've heard the forecast
in the space between heartbeats
the way the birds know
when to sing,
when to fly,
where to go....

Asunder

An angry wind moved
and tore down the house
and barn

It uprooted the corn
and snapped the trees
like twigs

Scattering the chickens
like salt on green beans
it moved onward ...

The barking dog
crouched beneath the
shadow of change...
Its bark becoming inaudible

taken up in
a deafening roar...

The decree was written in haste
signed with anger

There would be nothing left to take
after the bulldozers came...

Only the cowering dog
was spared

Whisked away
in the back of a pick-up truck

that sped away
in a cloud of dust

Into the vanishing point
.
